Meet our experiencedskilledpassionate staff
In order for its goals to be achieved, CRETAquarium is staffed by experienced, specialized personnel who possess scientific knowledge, talent, passion, and vision. All staff members undergo continuous training to ensure they are always capable of providing high-quality services to visitors.
Our philosophy is based on the fact that our people are one of the most important factors in the success of CRETAquarium, contributing to the realization of the Aquarium’s vision and objectives.
The science of Aquariology is the cornerstone of Cretaquarium’s operation, ensuring the care, health, and natural behavior of the marine organisms housed in our facilities. Our specialized team of marine scientists, biologists, and aquarists—with deep knowledge of marine life and ecological processes—oversees the management of aquarium systems, monitors the behavior of organisms, and maintains water quality, creating conditions that closely resemble their natural environment.
Daily care includes the careful feeding of the organisms, health assessments, and monitoring of environmental parameters to meet the needs of our living collections. Additionally, the team participates in research programs related to the biology, behavior, and adaptation of marine organisms, contributing to the conservation, protection, and understanding of marine biodiversity.
Biologists and aquarists play a crucial role in disseminating scientific knowledge and promoting marine conservation. With dedication, conscientiousness, and a scientific approach, they contribute to the understanding of marine life, offering the public a unique opportunity to experience the fascinating underwater world up close.
The technical department of an aquarium has the primary responsibility of maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the smooth operation of all facilities, while also guaranteeing the safety and comfort of both visitors and staff. It plays a critical role in the aquarium’s smooth functioning, ensuring the best possible experience for visitors and the safety of marine organisms and the facilities.
The customer service team at CRETAquarium is dedicated to creating a positive and well-organized experience for visitors. Through the friendly and professional behavior of our staff, we ensure that each visitor feels welcome. Our responsibilities begin as soon as the visitor enters the facility and include providing information and guidance on the various exhibits and marine species housed in the aquarium, explaining scientific concepts in an understandable and accessible manner, and overseeing the general order and safety of visitors. Throughout the visit, the aquarium staff remains available to answer questions and provide assistance, ensuring that visitors enjoy a rich and educational experience.
Education at CRETAquarium “Thalassokosmos” is dedicated to spreading scientific knowledge about the marine environment and raising public awareness, with a strong focus on the protection of the sea and its organisms. The Education Team, consisting of experienced, trained, and highly skilled professionals, organizes school visits and guided tours through educational programs they design and implement. These programs offer students the opportunity to explore the richness of marine life, biodiversity, ecosystems, and the adaptations of marine organisms.
Through interactive activities, creative workshops, and the use of specialized tools, students combine scientific knowledge with hands-on learning, engaging directly with the marine world. In doing so, they enhance their environmental awareness and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting the seas and natural habitats. With the aim of fostering love and respect for the marine environment, the visits—lasting one or two hours—provide a comprehensive and enriching learning experience.
The management of Cretaquarium consists of a team of professionals working collaboratively to ensure its smooth operation and the successful achievement of its goals. Each department plays a crucial role in supporting the mission of the Aquarium and ensuring its sustainability.
The management’s goal is to operate and maintain a large, state-of-the-art aquarium, while also promoting environmental education and raising public awareness about marine life and the protection of oceans and marine ecosystems. It ensures the proper functioning of the exhibits, the maintenance of the tanks, and the safety of visitors.
